Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use Santa Cruz County Residents Directory. The pages are a private reference to local and state records, directories, libraries, and archives. Using the pages means you accept these rules. If you do not accept them, do not use the reference or its linked search tools.

1. What This Reference Is

Santa Cruz County Residents Directory describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, directory collections, and historical sources concerning Santa Cruz County, California. It does not host the government records themselves and has no affiliation with the Assessor, Recorder, Elections Department, Superior Court, County Clerk, CDPH, any city, library, archive, or other custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use it or a linked result to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person.
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order.
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, or another offense.
  • Make a decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the pages at scale.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, or availability of the reference.

3. No Consumer Reports

This reference is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 and following. Nothing on these pages, and nothing supplied by a linked search provider, is a consumer report. None of it may be used to judge eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Outside Links and Tools

County and state portals, library resources, archives, and sponsored search tools have separate terms, privacy policies, prices, and availability. Santa Cruz County Residents Directory does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, results, data handling, or interruption.

5. No Warranties

The reference is provided “as is” and “as available.” No warranty is made that a page, fact, URL, fee, office detail, directory year, or linked portal is accurate, complete, current, or available. Confirm a record with the custodian before relying on it.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of this reference or a linked resource, including a decision made from a record located through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from a claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that results from your misuse of the reference or your violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a brief excerpt with attribution is permitted. Full-page republication and systematic copying are not.

9. Changes to These Terms

Updated terms may be posted here without a separate notice. Continued use after a revised version appears means that you accept the change.

10. Access Restrictions

The operators may block or limit a user who violates these terms, abuses a page, disrupts service, or threatens security. This may occur without advance notice where necessary.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law without applying conflict-of-law principles. California’s Public Records Act is codified at Government Code sections 7920.000 through 7931.000. California consumer privacy rights are addressed in Civil Code sections 1798.100 and following, including the California Consumer Privacy Act. Those statutes govern their respective agencies, businesses, and records; they do not turn this reference into a custodian or consumer reporting agency.

12. Severability

If a court finds one part of these terms unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

13. Questions

Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page. Questions about a deed, court file, certificate, voter record, parcel, or directory volume belong with the office or collection that holds it.
